Update on Small Circles!

I just finished Part 1 of Small Circles! That means I only have 3 more parts to go, and then I'll be back to writing about the Mind Breakers :) I'm equally excited about finishing this novel and starting back on Instead of This.

I have so much fiction running through my brain that I'm starting to get confused!

Not only can you look forward to the last installment of The Mind Breaker Accounts in 2013, but now you can expect a new novel! Yes, I am currently working on another book! Well my vacation from writing has been quite relaxing, but now it's time to get back to business. I'm putting together the finishing touches on the second edition of Because of Him. It will be available for you on Thanksgiving Day. After than, I plan to go full swing into the third book, Instead of This!

I'm very excited about the final installment because for me it will act as a sort of closer to the characters and their stories. I hope it does the same for my readers.

My review of The Raven Boys.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

My rating: 5 of 5 stars




This book was an amazing read! I loved the Shiver series by Maggie, and I had an inkling I would like her other books too, but I had no clue I would fall in love with them! The Raven Boys had me holding my breath throughout every chapter and every time a sentence ended I wanted to know more. Maggie Stiefvater's writing captured more than just my imagination. It captured my whole existence! I want nothing more than to ride in that horrible orange Camaro with Gansey in the driver's seat and Ronan in the back, talking about what new things we discovered that day and just enjoying each others friendship. Adam's life broke my heart. Gansey inspired me to strive hard every day for what I want. Ronan taught me to not take shit from anyone. And Blue... I wish I was her.


I can not wait until the next one!!!

Book 2 is on its way!

I'm sooooo excited to tell you that Book 2 of The Mind Breaker Accounts is on its way to you NOW! Yes, that's right. Because of Him is currently processing and will be showing up on Amazon within the next 12-24 hours! I can't believe I'm already releasing my second book in less than a year. It's incredible how much hard work and determination can pay off!

Because of Him Update - September

Hello all!

I tweeted that there were changes being made to the Because of Him book cover. Now I have the finished product to show you!

Also, I'm so incredibly close to being satisfied with the book itself. I've gone over it a million times and I think I'm finally coming to a point where everything is perfect. Well not perfect. It can never be perfect. I would be working on it for the rest of my life if I wanted that. But it's nearly there.
The reason I've been so picky about the second book is because it has a very tight knit relationship with the third. I needed to get all of my facts straight for the end of the series before I could write the middle. It's a complicated thing trying to keep everything in order within a series like this. I respect J.K. Rowling a great deal now. I can't imagine how she kept that world in order. I stress daily over my books and I don't have nearly the amount of characters or creations.

The original release date is creeping up on me slowly. I still don't believe it will be ready by then, but it will be close. So no fears everyone. You won't have to wait that long to find out what happens!

Reflection

I thought I would further elaborate why I made the release date for Because of Him indefinite. When I started planning the series (The Mind Breaker Accounts), it was July 2009 and I was still in high school. I had notebooks that I would fill up with notes and every so often I would sit down and write a page or two of something specific that I wanted in the book. This process took three years and then finally I had something I could work with. The first book became Without Me and it was exactly the way I wanted it to be.
After the first book was finished, I had it planned in my head that I could finish the rest of the series in a reasonable amount of time, so that the others books would be released within the next two years. This was a very high hope. My original date for the release was September 24th. I have a version of the book that I could release to you by that time, but as a writer it would not make me happy. It's not the best version I could give you and I know exactly why. I pushed myself to make the date and by doing that I lost focus of the story itself. All I did was tell it, I didn't capture it like it should be.
This is why I plan to release the second book when I am 100% confident with it. I want my readers to have the best experience possible and this is the only way I know how to do that.

Because of Him release pushed back

So, I'm really sorry to announce that the release date for the second book in The Mind Breaker Accounts has been pushed back indefinitely. Because of Him will not be available for purchase on September 24th like it was originally planned. Due to some editing issues and my personal request, the decision has been made that the date will be pushed back. As of now, we don't have another date to give you, but I can tell you that it will still be this year. 2012 is still the goal, so don't think it'll be another year before you get to read it.

I would feel much more comfortable releasing Because of Him to everyone knowing that it's in its most perfect form. I want everything to be amazing for my readers and I want your experience to be the best one. I don't feel I can give you that unless I push back the release date.

Thank you for understanding and I hope this doesn't discourage your excitement. I will continue to post about any decisions that are made.

Mind Breakers in Music City!

I finally wrote something yesterday for the first time in two weeks! The relief I feel is absolutely incredible! All of the stress and writer's block that I've been experiencing has really taken its toll on me. You wouldn't believe how therapeutic writing can be!

I've started work on the exciting parts of the second installment to The Mind Breaker Accounts. Denni and Jack are on a mission to track down a particular Mind Breaker that's been acting a bit sketchy. They're headed to Nashville, Tennessee and if you remember any details from the first book you'll know which Mind Breaker they're searching for. The trip there has taken an interesting turn. The tension is high and not in a pleasurable way. It's been a while since I've written anything in Denni's point of view, so being back in her head is a comforting feeling. I'm getting so close to pulling all the final details together for the conclusion (or should I say cliff-hangers) to Because of Him.

I am also pleased to announce that I can now reveal there will be another Mind Breaker letting you into her head in this book. Before you've only heard stories from Denni, Jack, Amos, and Liz. In BOH you hear from Alivien, and let me warn you now, the things that go through this feisty ginger's head are enough to make you consider you've lost your own mind.

I can't say enough thank-yous to those of you who've supported my work! I may write the books but you're the ones that read them! Without you I would still be in my room, talking to myself, and dreaming up this world with no one to share it with. I love you all!

Update Number 2 / Writing Difficulties

NEW AMAZING BOOK STORE!

Yesterday I went on a magical adventure to find a used book store that also sells movies, games, electronics, and more. The place is called McKay's and I had no clue it even existed until one of my friends mentioned it. We went on a hunt to find it and the location had moved... no worries though, because we found the new location!

This place is located off of exit 199 going west on I-40. It's huge and amazing! There are two stories in the building. The first floor is like a library and has row upon row of every type of book you can think of! They have a great Young Adult section! The top floor is all music and I found there were a lot of great picks there too!

Anyone who lives in the Nashville area should check this place out! You will love it!

When we last left the Mind Breakers there were many questions unanswered and numerous troubles looming in their midst. Denni and Jack’s supposed relationship has hit the pause button due to a special friend from Jack’s past. Liz has lost more than just a sense of who she is. Amos is either missing or dead, no one’s quite sure. And as for Alivien, we’ve yet to really see what this rambunctious redhead is capable of. Now that Cox has been taken into custody you’d think this group of unique beings would have one less thing to worry about. That, however, would not be the case. There are still three other Mind Breakers whose stories have not been told and there are rumors surfacing that there is still someone helping Cox from the inside. Liz seems to know the secret but Jack is weary to hear that the double agent could very well be his best friend. There's a new threat lingering in the distance and it stinks of betrayal. But don't forget, it's not just one foe that's looking for them now.

Long Time No Updates

Hello all!

Yet again I've gone too long without posting. I've found it a lot easier to tweet little bits of info every so often instead of sitting down and blogging a whole paragraph. I feel like I've been telling you the same things: I've been writing but there's still a lot to go. But today I actually have news!!! So here it is in a nutshell.....

I did finish another teaser trailer for Without Me which is posted on my Youtube channel (NEW!!!!) and on the blog. I also have a very exciting announcement! I will be announcing the title of the second book in The Mind Breaker Accounts Series. It will be announced in a video blog that I plan on posting sometime this week!

That is another bit of news. I've updated my Youtube channel that I hadn't been on in 3-4 years. I decided that instead of sharing my fiancé's account I should just have my own. I already had a google account login because of this blog so it only made sense. Anyone who's looked at my channel to see the other trailers might have seen a video from back in the day about long distance relationships.... don't judge me. I was young. And bored. Maybe it'll make you laugh.

Next week I'll be in Florida so there won't be anything new on my blogs and channel. I'll be sure to tweet as much as possible though. (P.S. Anyone who wants up to the minute updates should follow me on Twitter @megan_duke because that's what I use the most)

June Update & Ed

Hello all! It's been a bit since I've filled you in on what's happening inside the world of me. Seeing as nothing that interesting has happened, that might be why I've neglected to provide you with a recent update. But none the less here I am now!

This past month has been filled with LOTS OF FOCUS on writing. I bold that because I honestly have been trying to focus but have somewhat failed. Things have been distracting me such as.... ummm ED SHEERAN.... and what was that other thing? Oh yeah, ED SHEERAN!!!! If you don't love him and his music then in turn you don't love me and well that's just wrong, is it not? I've been promoting his music like crazy through social networking and trying to expose him to people in the Nashville area. I've already seen him once this year but he's back again this month and will be doing a free gig at Third & Lindsley June 18th so come check it out! I'll be there of course, so if you've got no where else better to be then you most certainly can come hangout with me and listen to awesome music.

As for me and my writing career, the time I have spent concentrating on writing I've actually gotten a lot done. I just spent the last two weeks of my life writing the LONGEST CHAPTER EVER in Liz's point of view. Now, you've heard me mention this before that Liz is my favorite character, but god is it hard to stay in her head for too long. So much happens at this particular point in the book that could only be told my her, so it ended up being a very long and excruciating process. It is done though and now for the next week or so I'll be in Jacktown. (Yes, that means I'm going to be writing in Jack's POV)

Book 2 Update

Hello everyone!
I know it's been a while since I've posted but you don't have to worry because while I've been away I've gotten a lot done. Book 2 is coming along quite nicely. I've gotten everything sorted out in the timeline and each chapter is narrowed down in my timeline. It took me 3 hours to set it up, but hey - now all I have to do is consentrate on writing.
This month I've been trying to focus on Liz's point of view. She's always been my favorite character because there's so much to her. Some terrible and amazing things happen to her in the 2nd book and I've been trying really hard to dive into her mind and search the affects of those events and what they've done to her as a person. Someone new and vital comes into the picture, and creating his character has been quite fun as well.
As for the Book Trailer for Book 1, we've hit a bit of a snag in the rope. But it's still being worked on so eventually it will be ready. I also have an ideal release date for Book 2. My plan is to have it finished by the end of the summer and have a September release date. This is a GOAL so it's not set in stone, but I have faith that it can be achieved. When we get closer to the goal date I will reveal the title of Book 2.

Thanks for staying with me and supporting me even through the update droughts. But keep in mind that when I'm away for a long time that just means I'm spending a lot of time with the Mind Breakers.

Without Me Book Trailer Day 3

The project of creating the Without Me book trailer was placed on hold for a fews days due to my massive sinus infection / really annoying cold. I've been incredibly miserable for the past few days with a stopped up head that feels like a fifty pound weight and a voice like a man. I remained on bed rest for two of the days I've been ill and slept for a total of approximately forty hours but now I'm feelings much better. I actually ventured outside for the first time yesterday and was pleased to know that it's no longer winter and it actually feels like spring again. For the past week we've had a cold spell in the forties in Nashville - why I do not know. But now it's in the 80s again and I'm much happier. (Any ideas why I might have gotten sick? I blame you Mother Nature.)

Anywho, I got out and continued with day 3 of the filming for the Without Me book trailer and I've now finished spelling out all the words! Yay! Now all that's left is incorporating my paper characters that Trent made me and we'll be on our way to Youtube! I suspect this will be a lot of fun. Jack and Denni

Throughout the course of the 3 books I have planned for The Mind Breaker Accounts series, Jack and Denni have trouble accepting the fact that they love each other. It's seem stupid and ridiculous seeing as it's obvious how they feel, but things always seem to get in the way and make their relationship complicated.

**BOOK 1 SPOILER ALERT**

At first it's the fact that Denni is with Amos that keeps her from acknowledging how she feels about Jack. Then for a split second, once Amos is out of the picture, Jack and Denni are able to have a moment at peace with their emotions. That doesn't last long though. When Avery shows up Jack is faced with having to deal with feelings he never truly put to rest from his past. In turn, Denni is faced with the possibility that she might now be on the other side of the glass. Now she's the other woman. The 1st book is left off with Jack and Denni not quite knowing where their relationship stands. They've had their moment. They said the magical three words and even slept together, but what does that mean when there are more important things on their plate to deal with?

As I'm writing book two I keep in mind the buried feelings both Jack and Denni have and use that to inspire their story. These are some of the songs that have kept it exciting and make me think of them. These are mostly coming from Jack's point of view.

I have so many books coming in the mail for people who have ordered them and are having them sent to my house so I can sign them! This is crazy! Without Me Trailer Day 2

Today was day two of filming for the Without Me Book Trailer. I've already become frustrated and trashed my original idea. Don't worry it wasn't really that great. I'm still working on the stop-motion part of the trailer which will be fantastic when it's finished! The only thing I'm worried about is the fillers between each scene where it spells out what I'm saying. I have a lot of things in my head that seem cool but every time I try to actually do it... it's not. I am still excited though! These are some shots from today's work. Hope you enjoy.

I got my book in the mail today! Holy moly this is incredible! The quality of it is fantastic! I can't believe it's actually real. Book 2 Update

Current work:


Today is a work day. I've removed myself from any distractions and I'm going to be stuck in my office until I've finished what I started. What have a started you ask? There are several parts of book 2 that contain arguments between Liz and other characters. I've decided to focus only on Liz and her confrontations because they are very important to the storyline. A whole day is needed to lay out all of her major peeks and pitfalls throughout the plot of the second book and I need to really figure out why it is she's so angry all the time.

Book 2 teaser:

We know that in Without Me Liz has money. Not necessarily the physical property of money, but she has nice things and that can all be lead back to Cox. He has taken care of the members of his group including Amos. So that must mean that he has done the same for the other two members of MBGM, Nathan and Jack. Now, we don't get to know Nathan until the second book but you are introduced to him as Jack's best friend and band mate. It is almost assumed that he is on the same level as Jack and didn't want to be associated with Cox's money during MBGM, and after moving on refused to acknowledge the idea that Cox was even there for them in any sense. Now that Nathan and Jack are no longer being taken care of we know that as a sign that they are no longer working for Cox. Only Liz and Amos remain loyal to him. But they have a secret weapon. Someone on the inside that is being controlled. Even at the end of Without Me when everything has died down and Cox is taken to jail someone is still out there somewhere, controlling the victim. It's not Amos because he's missing or dead, no one is really sure. It's not Liz because she's one of the good guys now. It can't be Cox because he's been taken to jail and shown the necessary protection against others concerning his control. That only leaves Jack and Nathan. Jack is no longer associated with Cox and couldn't have been given the power to control other Mind Breakers. So where does that leave Nathan. Jack refuses to believe his best friend would betray him in such a powerful way but Liz seems to know the secret. There's a new threat lingering out in the distance and it stinks of betrayal. But don't forget, it's not just the enemy that's looking for them now...

Paperback version of Without Me

The Kindle version of Without Me has been in the Kindle Store on Amazon for about a week now and so far I've made 5 sales... all from people I know. Yes I know it's only been a week and it takes time for the word to get out, but I'm actually quite confident and not too worried about the Kindle sales. This is because I've been working on Createspace, the other self publishing company that works with Amazon. Createspace will actually print my book as they are order and they will also been seen on Amazon.com. I think going ahead and making the paperback version of my book will allow more people to access it and have the will to get it. I've had question and concerns from people about how to download the Kindle version if they don't have a Kindle and I've had to explain about the app and how everything works. I feel like most people are intimidated by the fact that its an ebook and aren't wanting to get it. So now Without Me will be available in paperback on Amazon for $11.99! It's currently listed at https://www.createspace.com/3849882 but I'll be keeping everyone posted on when it's ready for purchase on Amazon through my other pages as well as this blog. The Setting

These are some of the places that inspired me when writing the first book. There were several houses I had to imagine including Jack's, Liz's, and Amos's apartment. I also had a pretty vivid picture in my head of what I wanted to pub to look like even though I didn't go into detail describing it in the book. I googled a lot of places in or around Manchester and came up with a few places that I liked.

^ Jack's house in the south of Manchester. It's one of those English townhouses that are all bunches up together down the road and have brightly colored doors. In the book Jack has a green door.

^ Two houses that when combined resemble what I envisioned for Liz's gigantic home in York, provided by Cox and his wealth.

^ Something along the lines of what Amos and Denni's flat would look like.

^ The actual mall, Trafford Centre, in Manchester that is supposed to be like the one Denni and Jack work at.

^ York railway station.

^ The Bulls Head Pub. An actual pub that I found. I didn't really base my pub on this one. But here's a picture so you can see anyways.

All of these pictures were taken of actual places in England. I found them on Google but don't remember where. I'm not using them for anything, I only studied them as inspiration for the settings in my book. The houses and places I describe in Without Me are completely my own and were created from my imagination. These pictures are to show you a similar vision of what was in my head. Hope you enjoy!
